Why Traditional Outsourcing Has Failed You (and What We're Doing About It)

This is the era of remote, global workforces. Join us as we change the way that companies bring on talent – remotely – from the most exciting, dynamic and cost competitive countries in the world.…sounds like a noble vision, right?

But let’s be honest: what really comes to mind when you think about hiring remote talent in another country?

  1. Distracted freelancers.
  2. Faceless crowdsourcing.
  3. Shady offshore outsourcers.

So you may ask, "but I thought you said this was the era of remote global workforces…?”

Here’s reality: in today's digital age, you can now find and work with talented people anywhere.

But along the way a bunch of old-school service providers couldn’t figure out the right way to connect that talent with employers, no matter how hard they tried. They created an industry based on shifting labor to lower cost markets, and called it “offshore outsourcing.” Very quickly, they made offshoring and outsourcing into dirty words.

And for good reasons too – the solutions out there that help you get global talent all fall short like the great disappearing work-from-home freelancer or the over-promising, under-delivering outsourcing provider.

But you know as well as we do that there are awesome people who could make a big impact on your company regardless of nationality or what country they live in.

So, what gives? Why isn’t traditional outsourcing right for every business? In short, the challenges often outweigh the benefits.

Challenges of outsourcing:

  • Lack of authority/control over day-to-day processes
  • Diluted company culture
  • Cultural and language barriers
  • Time zone differences
  • Inflexible contracts
  • Communication difficulties

We believe that technical ease doesn’t necessarily translate into management ease. In short, just because you have this amazing access to talent anywhere doesn’t mean that you have the right tools or methods at your disposal to successfully find, attract, manage and retain that talent.

Until now.

We've been building Bolton based on a mission to provide a reliable way to bring together great companies with great people, regardless of nationality or geographical differences.

We know that for you to stay competitive, writing off entire nations of people simply doesn’t make business sense. But you have to do it the right way to truly get the benefits. Here are some examples of what doing it the right way means to us.

Our beliefs about remote work:

  1. Working from home doesn't always work

Especially in countries where it is not always culturally desirable or poses a significant risk to business continuity. Our answer? Ditch work-from-home and instead work-from-Bolton. We set up and manage our own workspaces, where people form bonds, network, and be part of a larger, local community - even if they are working remotely side-by-side with a team on the other side of the world. It's just more fun this way.

  2. A freelancer is very different than a full-time, dedicated employee

We asked the simple question - why is it assumed that a remote employee = freelancer? Well, its because in the past most companies were only willing to bring on remote workers for part-time or task-based work. Things have changed, and at Bolton we believe that as you grow, you need people who will live and breathe your company - and only your company - every single day. So we designed a remote staffing model then enables full-time, 100% dedicated, career-minded professionals only to join companies remotely, and thrive.

  3. Technological ease doesn’t necessarily translate into management ease

One thing that online marketplaces seem to have overlooked is the fact that just because you can suddenly bring on someone anywhere in the world, doesn't mean you know how to successfully vet or manage that individual. We've designed specific services that help both sides work together more effectively - optimizing cultural differences vs. letting them be a barrier, and truly gaining from the incredible benefits that can only be realized by having a global, geographically diverse workforce.

  4. The best person for the job should win, hands down

We believe in hiring the best person for the job - regardless of race, gender, nationality or location - period.

In the 7 years since we were founded we have:
